Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can expect discovering which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
